Are You A Treasurer Hunter, too?

Ask anyone who knows me to name a favorite pastime, and they will tell you treasure hunting.

To be an excellent treasurer hunter, there are 4 things to live by:

1. Shop with purpose.

2.  Always be a conscientious editor

3.  Make sure everything has a place.

4.  Keep what you love and what is functional.

Why is treasure hunting so fun?  Aren't they just objects?  To me, I'm seeking those objects that make me feel sentimental toward an object that was once owned by someone we love, has a story, or memory behind it or reminds us of something or someone.  So it's a feeling I'm looking for when I see objects in second hand stores, estate sales, or the like.

Don't expect to find something when you need it.  Most of the time the treasures find you, not the other way around but it definitely helps being in the right places.  I like the second hand stores that I call "grandma stores" - these are the true gems.  The prices are the best and the volunteers at the register love to chat about what you found.  Sometimes it's a piece of vintage fabric, or an old timey book with worn leather and yellowed pages.

One of my favorite pieces of furniture to this day is an old five drawer dresser dumped on the side of the street.  It doesn't have knobs to open the drawers and it's rather shabby chic because someone tried to sand off the old paint.  It sits in my office and each drawer is filled with useful items.

I also like repurposing treasures because it's less waste in the landfill plus the quality of products and handmade forging are worth saving.  It's okay to get inspired by some of the big box stores - I do too!  But I crave and seek individuality when I'm thrifting.  I also like to change it up a lot in my interior designing.  Just by moving furniture around can inspire a small shift in your mood.  Color also has this affect on me.  Right now I'm super into SW 0065 Vogue Green.

I know it's a little dark to tell, but that is Vogue Green in our kitchen/office nook.  I will be looking for vintage paintings with a pop of color to off set the dark tone.  Can't wait to start thrifting for those!
